Baseline Impact Assessments
Managing Environmental Impact.
Canadian Environmental Impact Assessments (CEIA's) are required for a range of projects from small community infrastructure to large scale developments under the BC Assessment Act (BCEAA) and the Canadian Assessment Act (CEAA).
As a member of the Pinchin Group of Companies, our environmental assessment expertise provides clients with an integrated and solutions based approach through all phases of the assessment process.
Environmental Baseline and Impact Assessments
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are required for a range of projects from small community infrastructure to large scale developments under the BCEAA process and CEAA. PHH ARC has a broad range of environmental and socioeconomic baseline and impact assessment experience, related to the mining sector, hydroelectric reservoirs, military projects, oil and gas development, marine infrastructure, airport redevelopment, commercial agricultural projects, energy generation (gas, wind, bio-energy, geothermal, solar and tidal), transportation infrastructure (bridges, highways, terminals, light and heavy rail), waste disposal (landfills and waste treatment facilities), resorts and manufacturing / processing facilities.
PHH ARC offers environmental assessments, environmental impact assessments and environmental management services, including the preparation of aquatic and terrestrial baseline reports, impact assessments, environmental management plans (EMPs), environmental protection plans (EPPs), along with experience in community consultation and First Nations consultation.
Our Environmental Baseline and Impact Assessment services and experience include:
Terrestrial Ecosystem Characterization and Impact Assessment
The PHH ARC team can provide detailed vegetation inventories, mapping and analysis, including rare plants and sensitive ecosystem inventories (SEIs), environmental management plans, environmental protection plans), and mitigation planning.
Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) is an important component of terrestrial baseline and impact assessments, and our team will work to integrate the relevant climate, vegetation and soils data to produce TEM maps that are completed according to the provincial standards.
Aquatic and Riparian Habitat Characterization and Impact Assessment
PHH ARC provides reliable baseline characterization and assessments of potential project impacts on aquatic ecosystems, including conducting fish species inventories, benthic invertebrate sampling, aquatic habitat and riparian vegetation inventories, water quality testing and monitoring, and sediment quality studies. Our team will ensure that surveys are completed to the applicable Resource Inventory Standards Committee (RISC) guidelines. Our team can accurately characterize aquatic habitats, potential project impacts, and develop EMPs and EPPs. PHH ARC will work with our clients to ensure that the impacts of project activities on aquatic and riparian habitats are minimized.
We have extensive experience in the evaluation of stream-crossing structural designs, bank stabilization techniques, erosion and sediment control plans, and in-stream and riparian restoration.
Wildlife Inventories, Wildlife Habitat Characterization and Impact Assessment
The Pinchin Group of Companies has completed wildlife inventory projects for numerous species, including amphibians and reptiles, mammals and birds. Our wildlife specialists are experienced in a wide range of inventory techniques, including:
- Breeding and migratory bird surveys
- Waterfowl and songbird surveys
- Rare and endangered species and habitat assessments
- Amphibian and reptile surveys
- Winter aerial surveys and snow track surveys
- Ungulate behavioural assessments
- Large and small mammal surveys (i.e. Moose, caribou, bear, sheep, marmots)
PHH ARC has assessed wildlife habitats throughout British Columbia. Our team are knowledgeable of current Canadian and provincial legislation (i.e. Species at Risk Act) and we can advise clients on how to proceed minimize project impacts on key wildlife species.
Habitat Restoration and Compensation Plans
Our team at PHH ARC is experienced with designing and implementing habitat restoration projects and habitat compensation designs for impacted areas. We can provide habitat restoration and compensation planning services for streams, road corridors, cleared landings, decommissioned sites, dump sites and landfills.
Our team offers sound rehabilitation, restoration and re-vegetation options for disturbed ecosystems, and also provides other related environmental services ranging from ecological baseline assessments environmental management plans, environmental monitoring during construction and contractor management.
Through our affiliate company, Reese Environmental Services Inc., we offer wind measurement campaigns to provide the accurate and consistent wind data that is fundamental to the success of wind energy development sites.
- Field Data Services and Site Selection
- Meteorological Tower Installation & Operation
- SODAR/LIDAR Measurements
- Field Data Management & Wind Data Analysis
GIS and Mapping Services
PHH ARC has an expert staff of GIS and mapping specialists available to produce high quality GIS deliverables. We can integrate GIS into all phases of project development.
