Technologist, Hazardous Materials

Our Regina office is currently looking for a Hazardous Materials Technologist to provide support for hazardous material abatement, mould and indoor air quality projects in the industrial, commercial and residential real estate industries.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Entry Level to 1 year experience
  • A combination of relevant education and experience
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with an ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Working knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation/guidelines
  • Quick thinking and decisiveness when a situation requires it
  • Familiarity with building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc.) would be considered an asset
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Basic drafting (CAD) skills considered an asset
  • Reliable personal vehicle required

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct site investigations – asbestos, mould, mercury, PCBs, lead etc.
  • Conduct field work, including visits to sites and supervise remediation activities
  • Coordinate and supervise sub-contractors
  • Conduct air quality assessments, including indoor air and occupational hygiene
  • Interpret and analyze sample results in relation to legislative requirements and industry-accepted guidelines
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Liaise with clients and sub-contractors to ensure health, safety and hygiene needs are addressed and met

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (respiratory equipment, etc.)
  • 40 hour work week with some flexibility required to work the occasional weekend
  • Majority of field work will be single days or overnight stays in and out of the city – mileage reimbursement
  • Field work approximately 75% (office 25%), subject to change based on project workload
  • In-house training is provided
