Environmental Monitoring

Our Services Include

Air Quality Monitoring & Modeling

PHH ARC Environmental provides a broad range of services for clients on air quality issues, including air diffusion modeling, fugitive emissions testing, stack emissions testing, preparation of air approval applications, biomonitoring studies, and strategies for meeting Canada 's commitments under the Kyoto Accord.

Air quality monitoring ensures regulatory compliance, tests performance, and can be an effective guide to process optimization.
Air quality modeling helps our clients meet regulatory requirements, as well as ensures compliance with corporate and industry initiatives.

PHH ARC offers emission measurement services for a wide range of contaminants, and prepares air approval applications. We use the most current technology to predict behaviour of single or multiple source emissions under various process and weather conditions.

Construction Monitoring
Our construction monitoring services focus on work in and around waterbodies. This includes pipelines, culverts, bridges, and erosion protection schemes, as well as terrestrial projects that may impact water quality, aquatic ecosystems, and fisheries.

Our Construction Monitoring services include:

  • Planning: At the planning stage, we identify key environmental and construction issues, provide solution options, and secure approvals. Our services include Erosion Control Planning (ECP). Plans can be developed to meet client needs or formal standards.

  • Construction: Our specialists provide tailored advice and support at the construction site. Throughout the project, we liaise with regulators, stakeholders, and construction staff; monitor activities; and conduct audits to ensure continuing compliance.

  • Water Quality: PHH ARC can provide on-site water quality monitoring, data interpretation, and summary reports. For example, monitoring of turbidity and total suspended solids (TSS) may be required during in stream construction or directional drilling.

  • Restoration & Compensation: Our team's understanding of stream dynamics and aquatic ecology allow us to implement effective restoration and compensation plans for any decrease in productive capacity of fish habitat. During the construction of restoration measures, PHH ARC can provide guidance and produce 'as built' plans that satisfy regulatory agencies.

  • Post-Construction: Under the Fisheries Act, post-construction monitoring is often required. PHH ARC's services include monitoring of erosion protection structures, vegetation recovery, survival of new planting, and habitat restoration measures.

Groundwater Monitoring & Modeling
Groundwater monitoring Monitoring can identify groundwater quality impacts, quantify changes in the extent and magnitude of identified impacts, and help evaluate the effectiveness of natural attenuation and site remediation.

We are experienced in monitoring groundwater impacted by various sources (e.g., salinity, hydrocarbons, metals) on a range of sites, including well sites, gas stations, mines, landfills, and industrial plants. Read about our Annual Groundwater Monitoring project profile.

Groundwater modeling allows us to examine how and where subsurface contaminants move, compare the effectiveness of different remediation strategies, and to recommend groundwater protection zones.

We use state-of-the-art modeling techniques to analyze groundwater flow patterns and to evaluate contaminant fate and transport.

Soil Monitoring Programs
A soil monitoring program evaluates the surface quality of soils and identifies impacts associated with industrial operations. Typical contaminants of concern include: heavy metals, hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), sodium salts, and elemental sulphur.

Soil monitoring programs are designed to prevent and mitigate soil contamination; they are often required for project licensing and approval.

We are experienced in dealing with environmental concerns identified during soil monitoring programs. ARC Inc. can prepare & implement soil management plans and design practical, cost-effective remediation options to mitigate the site-specific concern(s).
